Opinion: Color Wonder and Aqua Doodle Limits Creativity

I was watching my 2 1/2 year old daughter the other day use her Aqua Doodle water pen. She was using it on a  special Aqua Doodle sheet where the colors magically appeared when then got wet. Every time she finished applying water to the sheet, she would hand it to me and asked to dry it, (to make the color disappeared) so she could do it again.

I feel like it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I have spent countless hours nurturing my daughter (and son’s) creativity with all kinds of drawing, cutting and painting tools and techniques only to opt out by letting them use water to color just so I would not have to clean it up!!?! Drawing with water and having an image that was already drawn and colored come up was not a creative activity.

How do I feel? Stupid, lazy, sucker. Yes, all three. I am done with Aqua Doodle. And Color Wonder for that matter. They are banned in my house. And if I can’t seem to manage to get all the art gear out when my kids ask me to be creative, then I deserve the bad mom of the year award.

Now that is Love!

If you are looking for a straight forward way to tell your ‘other’ that you really love them. I mean really really love them!

The Last Supper – Laura Bell

I tweeted about this a few days ago, but I feel like it completely worthy of a post. Laura Bell of Michigan collected lint from her dryer to recreated Da Vinci’s Last Supper. Bell’s masterpiece is 14′ x 4′ and the range of colors and detail in phenomenal. If this doesn’t make you jaw drop, I don’t know what will.
